The purpose of Project A.J., Inc. is to raise and distribute funds for the elimination of glioblastoma multiforme, the most common and deadly brain tumor, as a non-profit, tax-exempt public charity under IRS 501(c)(3) rules.
Project A.J., Inc. was founded in 2008, by high school junior Samantha Harper. The foundation was created in honor of her aunt, Joanne Papanek, who died on May 14, 2008, of a Grade IV Glioblastoma. Auntie Jo, or "A.J." became the namesake of the foundation. Joanne was fifty years old when she was diagnosed with this disease, and heartbreaking as it was, she was fortunate enough to live twenty-eight months more. She left behind a grieving family who was eager to direct their sadness into positive energy, and work towards preventing other families from losing loved ones in the way that they had.
Project A.J., Inc. is made up of a board of directors: Samantha Harper, Joseph Harper, and Evelyn Atkinson. Their primary goals for the foundation right now are to raise awareness of this disease and of this foundation. All of the foundation's money goes to the foundation's bank account, from where it will eventually be donated to the American Brain Tumor Association in Des Plaines, IL.
